Our contentment in the battles of life comes from our confidence that we are loved by the One who has overcome, and it is His promise that all things work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to his purposes. (Rom. 8:28) Paul goes on to conclude, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” That is our battle attitude. If God is enough, what or whom do we fear? That is our confidence. That is the source of our contentment. Peace is the greatest gift of the contented life. This peace is not an absence of conflict. It is not an abstract peace. It is not a detached peace. It is not peace born of denial or peace that ebbs and flows with the circumstances of our lives. Those are all examples of peace as the world gives. It is fleeting, and for the child of God, it is a counterfeit form of what God wants for us. God’s peace was bought for us by the blood of Jesus and infused into us by the power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, it is the constant, moment by moment gift that enables and empowers us to live “life in all its fullness” because it defeats the enemy’s ability to “kill, steal, and destroy” that life. (Jn. 10:10) Peace and battle. Struggle and confidence. Suffering and contentment. My prayer is that this book has cultivated in your heart that Deep Peace that is beyond our understanding. It is God’s precious gift for His people. As it rules in our hearts, it overflows out of us to be the presence of Christ in our dark and broken world. We become people of hope, people of peace, proclaiming salvation, sharing God’s love in tangible ways, and experiencing deep, holy contentment.
All this is ours if we will claim this one truth about our almighty, loving, triune God…He is enough!
